About Vufivuri

An independent guide to the birds and wild places of Hungary

Connecting People with Hungarian Nature

Vufivuri was started with a simple idea: Hungary is one of the finest birdwatching destinations in Europe, but reliable, practical information in English is surprisingly hard to find. We set out to change that by creating a resource that combines first-hand field experience with well-researched natural history.

Our content is written for birders of every level, from beginners planning their first trip with a pair of binoculars to experienced listers targeting specific species. We focus on accuracy, practical advice, and genuine enthusiasm for the wildlife and landscapes of the Carpathian Basin.

Field-Tested Information

Everything we publish is based on direct observation and verified through consultation with local experts and scientific literature. We visit the sites we write about and check our species information against current records.

Conservation Awareness

We believe that birdwatching and nature tourism can contribute positively to wildlife conservation. We highlight threatened species, explain the pressures they face, and link to organisations doing important work on the ground.

Open & Independent

Vufivuri is not affiliated with any tour company or commercial interest. Our recommendations are based solely on the quality of the birding experience and the accessibility of each site. We have no hidden agendas.

What We Cover

We focus on three main areas that we believe are most useful to visiting birders and nature enthusiasts:

  • Destination Guides covering Hungary's national parks, Important Bird Areas, and other noteworthy sites, with access details, species lists, and the best times to visit.
  • Species Profiles for Hungary's most sought-after birds, combining identification tips with information on behaviour, ecology, and where to find them.
  • Seasonal Overviews that help you plan your trip around the events that matter most, whether that is the spring arrival of Bee-eaters or the autumn crane migration.

We update our content regularly based on new information, reader feedback, and our own ongoing fieldwork. If you spot an error or have a suggestion, we genuinely want to hear about it.

Have Questions or Suggestions?

We are always glad to hear from fellow birders. Whether you have a question about a particular site, want to share your own Hungarian birding experiences, or have spotted something we should correct, please get in touch.
